Tools for the Job: Shotgun

We all know shotguns and zombies go together like a horse and carriage… or perhaps more accurately like an old horse and the knackers. Either way a zombie game without a shotgun would be like a pistol without ammo or a Christmas party without booze.

In Zogma the shotgun plays a special role. While it doesn’t do the most damage in the world, it does both slow and knock back the incoming undead – putting vital distance between succulent human flesh and gnashing zombie teeth. In the hands of a good player the shotgun will buy you the time you need to let your machine guns and sniper rifles put the undead back in the ground.

shotgun

While this game design stuff is ok; more importantly nothing beats tearing apart the stumbling undead with a 12 gauge blast. So make sure you buy a shotgun.

Meet the Cast: Shooter

Even though these zombies have nothing to do with the terrible Marky-Mark movie of the same name, these guys have shown themselves to be a real headache during testing.

In Zogma’s half thought out background the Shooter is the first kind of zombie to begin to change – it’s infected body warping and changing as the virus/plague/dark magic tears the victims human body apart.

In attack the Shooter lurks behind the other undead, hurling blobs of plague fluid that weaken the survivors. It’s the range that the Shooter posses that makes them really deadly; while they aren’t as dashing as Canadian snipers, they are painful to deal with!

Pictures from the End Times

farm

Most of you would have seen this level before, it’s the farm; nothing like rural bliss.

What you might not have seen before is the carnage that now builds up in each level as you progress. Using some kind of black arts I’m not meant to know about (they hiss at me when I ask), the coders do some trickery to make dead zombies and stuff remain on the ground. It looks cool and It’s good for the crops I’m told.

farm2

Here is the farm again, at dawn this time. This picture also shows off the “tank”. I was originally told they were put in the game to be a ‘super zombie’, but I’m pretty sure it was really because everyone wants an opportunity to kill a steroid addled bouncer… sorry a ZOMBIE steroid addled bouncer.

diner

This picture is of the diner level. It also shows a zombie being shot in the face with a shotgun. They hate that kind of thing.

hospital

And here is the hospital. We all know shows and games about hospitals are utterly boring,… but the good news is that zombies can spice up pretty much anything. In fact studies have shown that even “Scrubs” would be almost bearable if some undead roamed the halls….

upgrades

Last but not least is the upgrade menu. Smooth and intuitive – it will let you fight the undead horde in the style to which you are accustomed as an Apple fanboy.
